My Story

PGMs Paddle - Part 1

As a supporter of the October 2016-October 2021 Festival and the Festival Fortnight, I was delighted to accept the responsibility of ensuring I could get two fine athletes to paddle the length of a marathon down the River Thames to raise money for charity.

My thoughts quickly turned to what elite team I would be working with: Redgrave, Pinsent, Foster… the choices were endless. However, it was when the team sheet arrived that the sinking feeling set in.

John Clark PGM
Gary Brodie APGM

I now realise the sinking feeling was quite apt, as simple physics tells me there may be boat load issues and ‘sinking’ may well be what they experience on 15th June 2019.

Although I have been assured that John & Gary have been through rigorous Festive Broad training, I can only liken this to Cool Runnings on water, but I accept the challenge!!!

The Two Part Challenge

1st Challenge: 15th June 2019 – drop John and Gary in the river, watch to see if they sink. Failing that they have to paddle the length of a marathon.

2nd Challenge: June 2020 – both John and Gary have agreed (I have witnesses!) that as long as we can raise enough money for the first challenge they will paddle 150 miles down the Thames over 5 days.

So what are you waiting for? Sponsor John & Gary now for PGMs Paddle Part 1, by clicking the GIVE NOW button at the top of the page.

Let’s see if they sink, or float and make it to the finish line.

And if you would like to join in either or both of the challenges, please email me:
